CIS Code of Ethics

Founded in 1965, The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a global non-profit membership organization and the largest and most valid association related to international schools.

The purpose of the "CIS Code of Ethics" is to define the ethical principles on which CIS Members are expected to base their conduct and professional practice.

The purpose of CIS

  • To ensure that the school seeks excellence in all stages of education,
  • To ensure that the school offers a high quality education and curriculum in line with clearly defined targets and standards,
  • To enable the school community to discover its strengths and weaknesses for its continuous development,
  • To enable the school to compare with the world schools community and thus to test itself on a global level.

Benefits to the institution and its students

  • A CIS accredited school creates a favorable impression on individuals, educational institutions, and universities, both domestically and internationally, regarding its community,
  • The school's self-assessment report, meticulously prepared throughout the accreditation process, is a valuable contribution to its development,
  • The accreditation process strengthens the harmony and communication between all departments of the school,
  • This objective evaluation done by an institution outside the school generates many useful and constructive suggestions,
  • The accreditation process provides the school with the opportunity to communicate with other schools around the world,
  • The school can prepare future plans as a result of the reports submitted by CIS to the school after the self-evaluation process and CIS verification visits, which are part of the accreditation process,
  • All aspects of the school are adapted to high standards,
  • Information on all aspects of the school is digitally recorded,
  • Members of the school community become aware of their shortcomings and weaknesses and make a constant effort to correct them,
  • Everyone in the institution questions and evaluates themselves and the institution.

Expectations from All CIS Members:

  • Fulfilling the commitments set forth in guiding statements, policies, contracts and promotional materials,
  • Working for excellence,
  • Creating and nurturing a school culture in which the education of students and other stakeholders is provided in an environment where their safety and well-being are ensured,
  • Complying with the applicable laws, policies and regulations,
  • Being respectful of the dignity and equality of all individuals, groups and cultures,
  • Supporting global citizenship.
